In the song “Duyên Âm” by Hoàng Thùy Linh there are these lyrics: “Thiên linh linh / Địa linh linh”. In the official video, this part is translated as “Prajnaparamita….Prajnaparamita….” In another translation I found, someone translated it as “Holy holy Heaven, holy holy Hell”. In the dictionary I see “linh” means spirit/soul. Can someone explain these lyrics and this use of “linh” or “linh linh” please?

@Kitkat23 Lol haha its complicated. But ” linh linh ” here is most used when you pray for sth and beg the Higher ( like God , Fairy ,…) to hear your request. In this song, ” Thiên” means Sky. “Địa” means The Ground . The main girl of the song is begging for a flavour from the sky+ the earth that please make her ex go away and no longer annoying her. One more reason why she said so, which is related to the tittle of the song. ” Duyên âm” mean when you have a connection with a dead human spirit that loves you and cant stop lingering . This kind of relationship against you to have a healthy, real relationship with someone else who is alive. So she compares her annoying Ex as ” Duyên Âm ” and hope he will go away soon !

I‘m thinking of “linh hồn” speaking of the term “linh” in the lyrics. “Linh hồn” means soul.

In Vietnam, to describe a pagoda where people prayed then they can get what they pray for, the native say “Chùa này rất linh.” In this case “linh” means that the Asian God or Buddha heard your prayer and they would make it come true. I think that there’s the same issue happens with the term “linh” in “Thiên linh linh, địa linh linh”. (I’m a Vietnamese. My English is not so good, hope that you can understand it 😭 🤗)
